Mashtide Pale

Our first recipe, still our best seller. If you only drink one beer here, make it this one — it is the reason the lights stay on.

Why it tastes like that

Citrus first, biscuit underneath

Mashtide Pale was batch number one, brewed on a kit half this size in 2019. The recipe has barely moved since: a short malt bill so the hops have nowhere to hide, and a dry hop timed to the hour, not the day.

Expect grapefruit and passionfruit over fresh biscuit, with a bitterness that arrives late and leaves early. It drinks brighter than 4.8% has any right to.

At the table

Order it with

This week's food truck runs a pork belly bun with crackling and pickled fennel — the beer's citrus cuts straight through it. Failing that, salt and vinegar crisps and a sunny corner of the yard.

Take it home: 440ml cans, dated on the day they leave the tank. Ask the bar what's freshest — the answer is usually today.
