Pouring now House beer

Black Buoy Stout

Roasty coffee and cocoa, light enough for a second pint. Dark in the glass, light on its feet — the winter beer that refused to leave in spring.

Why it tastes like that

Roast without the weight

Black Buoy started as a one-off for a stormy February weekend and outsold everything else on the bar three to one. Ruth put it on permanently the following Monday and has never heard the end of it, in a good way.

Flaked oats give it a soft, full body while the roast stays firmly in espresso-and-dark-chocolate territory. At 4.4% it is built for a second pint, not a lie-down.

At the table

Order it with

Chocolate pudding if the truck has it, a cheese toastie if it doesn't. Purists drink it on its own after dinner, which in the taproom counts as dinner anyway.

Winter ritual: every November we brew a 7% imperial version for one weekend only. The mailing list hears first — that is the whole point of the mailing list.
